Steps

  1. Know what you owe: Narok property rates are based on your property's valuation and size, whether the land is leasehold or freehold. Ask the county for your rates statement.
  2. Pay through an official county channel: a direct deposit to a county revenue account or an electronic channel.
  3. Ask for and keep the official county receipt for every payment.

Watch out

  • Late rates grow by a 3% penalty compounded every month. The county finance chief can waive the penalty, so ask if you are clearing old arrears.
  • A real county revenue collector wears a county ID card where you can see it. Don't pay anyone without one.
  • If you get a written demand for unpaid rates, you have 60 days to pay before the county can act.

Who can apply

  • Owners of land or buildings in Narok County, including holders of leases with 21 years or more left
  • In some cases the person occupying the property is the one who pays
