Register a trademark with KIPI

First search with Form TM27 to make sure nobody has registered your mark. Then fill Form TM2, pay KSh 4,000 on KIPI's eCitizen, and submit the form with your receipt. After the advert (KSh 3,000) and a 60-day objection window, pay KSh 2,000 to register.

What you need
- Filled Form TM2 (Application for Registration of a mark), with your logo or artwork on it or attached
- The payment receipt you download from eCitizen
Steps
- Do a search using Form TM27 to check that your name, logo or slogan isn't already registered by someone else in Kenya.
- Fill Form TM2, then log in to KIPI's eCitizen (kipi.ecitizen.go.ke), generate an invoice for the application and pay.
- Submit the filled form together with the eCitizen payment receipt to KIPI for processing.
- Pay the advertisement fee. Your mark is then open to objections for 60 days. If nobody objects, pay the registration fee.
Watch out
- A trademark covers specific classes of goods or services. Registering in one class doesn't stop someone else using a similar mark in a different class.
- You can use the name while registration is going on, but it's a risk: if someone objects and wins, your mark can be refused.
- Applicants from outside Kenya must go through a local agent.

- An individual, company, partnership, society, co-operative or any lawful association can apply.
