Go to KVB

What you need

  • National ID card (original and copy)
  • KCSE certificate (original and copy)
  • College or university certificate (original and copy)
  • Receipt or card from your professional body (KVA for vets; KVPA, KASPA or AHTTAK for paraprofessionals)
  • KVB intern certificate (Certificate of Temporary Registration), if you graduated in 2016 or later
  • Application form (Form 1 for vets, Form 3 for paraprofessionals), the oath and a passport photo

Steps

  1. Not indexed? Create an account on the KVB portal (mms.kenyavetboard.or.ke), apply for the pre-registration exam and pay. Exams run in February and September.
  2. After passing, apply for indexing before you can join the internship programme.
  3. Apply for internship on the KVB portal. Once KVB gives you an intern certificate, fill the Directorate of Veterinary Services (DVS) internship form for placement.
  4. Do the 52-week supervised internship at an accredited centre, then submit your logbook, Form 42 and assessment forms to KVB.
  5. Apply for full registration with your documents and pay the registration fee on eCitizen (paybill or *222#).

Watch out

  • The fee is charged for every year since you graduated, so registering late costs more (for example, 5 years for a vet is KSh 20,000).
  • A KCSE result slip is not accepted. You need the actual KCSE certificate.
  • Graduated in 2016 or later and never did internship? You must do it, even if you are already working.

Who can apply

  • Graduates in veterinary medicine (BVM) or animal health (degree, diploma or certificate) from KVB-accredited institutions.
  • If you were admitted to university after 11 June 2020 and were not indexed by KVB, you must pass the pre-registration exam first.
