Renew your annual veterinary licence (KVB retention)

Pay your KVB retention fee before 31 December each year on the KVB portal (KSh 4,000 for vets, KSh 2,000 for technologists, KSh 1,000 for technicians) and meet your CPD points. Clear any arrears first.

Steps
- Log in to the KVB portal (mms.kenyavetboard.or.ke). Your account must be activated first.
- In the retention section, click Apply, then New Retention Application, then Renew. The system works out what you owe.
- Click Proceed to payment and pay on the eCitizen page with M-Pesa, card or another option.
- Download your official receipt. Your retention status updates and you can download your KVB card.
Watch out
- If you missed past years, you must clear those arrears before paying for this year. For example, 3 missed years for a vet is KSh 12,000.
- Paying by USSD (*222#) or the eCitizen invoice generator works, but your status updates late. You then upload proof of payment on the portal and wait for KVB to confirm.
- If your name is left off the register, you are treated as not registered and KVB recalls your certificate. Getting back on needs a reinstatement through KVB.
Who can apply
- Vets and veterinary paraprofessionals already on the KVB register
- Vets need at least 20 CPD points in the year, or a CPD waiver
- Paraprofessionals need at least 14 CPD points in the year, or a CPD waiver
