Remit HELB loan deductions as an employer

Log in to the HELB Employer Portal, upload your staff list to see who owes HELB and how much to deduct, then upload the monthly remittance list and pay. Remit every month's deductions by the 15th of the following month.

What you need
- The remittance list, filled in on the CSV template you download from the portal
Steps
- Go to the HELB Employer Portal (employers.helb.co.ke). Log in, or register if it's your first time.
- Upload your staff list. The portal shows which staff are HELB loanees, their balances and the monthly amount to deduct.
- Deduct those amounts from pay. Each month, upload the remittance list, confirm it and print the e-slip.
- Under Payments, pick the remittance record, click Make Payment and pay through eCitizen.
- Check Statements: once HELB gets the money the record shows Paid and you can download the receipt.
Watch out
- Late or unpaid remittances cost the employer a penalty of 5% per month on every deduction that stays unpaid.
- If an employee refuses to be deducted, send them to HELB in writing, but keep deducting until HELB tells you otherwise.
- Check new hires on the portal. Failing to tell HELB that you employ a loanee can mean a fine of at least KSh 3,000 for each month.
Who can apply
- All employers in Kenya. You must disclose HELB loanees you employ, deduct their loan repayments, and remit them to HELB.
