Restore a struck-off company to the register
Business Registration Service · sources read 2 Oct 2026
If your company was struck off in the last 6 years while it was still trading, a former director or member can ask the Registrar to restore it: bring all filings up to date, then file Form CR 48 on BRS eCitizen. Otherwise, you need a High Court order.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- Online on BRS eCitizen (brsv2.ecitizen.go.ke). Court restorations go through the High Court.
What you need
- Form CR 48: application for administrative restoration
- All overdue documents (such as annual returns and accounts) needed to bring the company up to date
- If company property passed to the State: written consent from the Attorney General
Steps
- File every overdue document for the company and pay any late filing penalties.
- Log in to BRS on eCitizen and choose the 'Restoration of strike off' service.
- Submit Form CR 48 and pay the prescribed fee.
- Wait for the Registrar's notice. If approved, the company is restored from the date of that notice.
- If the Registrar refuses, you can apply to the High Court within 28 days.
Watch out
- Not eligible for the Registrar route? Creditors and others with an interest can ask the High Court to restore the company, generally within 6 years of dissolution. Then hand the court order to the Registrar.
- If the company comes back with its number as its name, you must change the name within 14 days. Missing this is an offence.
- Once restored, the company is treated as if it was never struck off.
Who can apply
- A former director or member of the company
- Companies struck off by the Registrar for not trading, or struck off on their own application
- The company was dissolved no more than 6 years before the Registrar gets your application
- The company was still trading or in operation when it was struck off
