Search or register security over movable property (e-Collateral Registry)

Anyone with an eCitizen account can search the Collateral Registry (MPSR) on BRS eCitizen for KSh 500 and get a search certificate immediately, for example to see if a car you want to buy is pledged to a lender. Only lenders (secured creditors) register, amend or cancel notices.

What you need
- To search: the borrower's (grantor's) ID details or the motor vehicle details
- Lenders registering a notice: the grantor's and lender's identifiers and addresses, a description of the collateral and the period it is secured for
Steps
- Go to brsv2.ecitizen.go.ke, click Sign in and log in with your eCitizen account and the OTP sent to you.
- On the dashboard, find Collateral Registry (MPSR) and click Proceed.
- To check a car or person, click Search, enter the vehicle or ID details, pay and download the search certificate.
- Lenders: click Apply for an initial notice, fill in the grantor, creditor, collateral, amount and period, tick the declaration and click Complete.
Watch out
- The registry shows loans secured on an asset, not who owns it. Check ownership separately (for a car, through NTSA).
- Only the lender can amend or cancel a notice. If your loan is paid off and the notice is still there, ask the lender to cancel it.
- Lenders: a mistake in the grantor's ID number or the collateral description makes the notice ineffective.
