National Cereals and Produce Board · sources read 1 Oct 2026
Take clean, dry maize (or beans and other grains) to your nearest NCPB depot. It is graded to KEBS standards and moisture tested before NCPB buys at the Government price, so confirm at the depot that it is buying and at what price.

- Where
- In person at your nearest NCPB depot or silo. Complaints: complaints@ncpb.co.ke or 020 6536028
Steps
- Dry and clean your maize well. Clean grain gets a better grade. NCPB can also clean and dry grain for a charge.
- Take your produce to the nearest NCPB depot. Every depot can grade grains and pulses.
- NCPB tests the moisture and checks the quality to set the grade.
- If the depot is buying, NCPB pays the Government purchase price for your grade.
Watch out
- The buying price is set by the Government and changes. Confirm the current price at the depot before you hire transport.
- Not ready to sell? You can store grain in a certified warehouse and use the warehouse receipt as security for a loan.
