What you need

  • A letter to the regional engineer in charge asking for the conversion
  • Your residential address (in the letter)
  • Your current account or meter number (in the letter)
  • Your contact phone number (in the letter)

Steps

  1. Write to the Kenya Power engineer in charge of your region asking to convert from postpaid to prepaid.
  2. Pay your postpaid balance in full.
  3. Kenya Power technicians come as a team with company ID cards and replace your old meter with a prepaid one.
  4. If you have no debt, your old electricity deposit is refunded.

Watch out

  • Any unpaid bill moves to the prepaid meter, and part of every token purchase goes to clearing it.
  • Only let in technicians who show a Kenya Power ID card.

Who can apply

  • Postpaid customers who want a prepaid meter (and prepaid customers who want to go back to postpaid).
