Community health promoters are chosen by their own community at a public meeting and then appointed by the county government. You must be a Kenyan adult who can read and write and has lived in that community for at least five years.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- In your community, through your county government's health department
Steps
- Watch for your county's notice of a CHP selection. It must be published at least seven days before the meeting and explains the criteria and how to be nominated.
- Attend the public participation forum in your community, sign the attendance register, and get selected by the community.
- If selected, the county government appoints you on terms set by the county public service board.
- Once appointed, the county records you in its register of community health promoters.
Watch out
- The stipend, training, work tools and supervision come through your county government, so ask the county health office about payment.
- If you were already a community health volunteer (CHV) when the law started, you are treated as a CHP.
- CHPs must not ask the people they serve for money or gifts.
Who can apply
- Kenyan citizens over 18.
- You have lived in the community for at least five years in a row before appointment.
- You can read and write in at least one national language and the local language.
- You are a responsible, respected member of the community and understand what a CHP does.
