- How long
- Booking is immediate; you choose your test date
- Where
- Book online on the NTSA Service Portal (eCitizen login), then sit the test at your chosen NTSA test centre
What you need
- A provisional driving licence (PDL) that is at least 21 days old
- A completed medical certificate (Form 4)
Steps
- Enrol in a licensed driving school. NTSA publishes the list of licensed schools on its website.
- Pass the school's internal test. The school only backs your NTSA test application after you pass it.
- Log in with eCitizen, open the NTSA Service Portal (New), go to test booking, pay and pick your test date.
- Go to your chosen test centre and sit the test: theory, highway code and traffic signs, road safety, and a practical drive of at least 2 km.
- Passed? Apply for your interim licence. Didn't pass? Apply for a retest.
Watch out
- Failed? You must wait 21 days to retest. Fail the theory part and you redo the whole test; fail only the practical and you redo just the practical, if within 6 months.
- All your lessons must be at a licensed school with a licensed instructor, so check the school is on NTSA's list before you pay.
Who can apply
- Learners aged 18 and above who are enrolled at a licensed driving school.
- You can also book on your own if you are converting a foreign driving permit, or if you were ordered to take a fresh test.
