Check if a nurse or midwife is licensed (NCK register)

Nursing Council of Kenya · sources read 2 Oct 2026

Search the NCK register free at osp.nckenya.com/LicenseStatus, ideally with the nurse's licence number, to see if they hold a current practice licence. Every nurse practising in Kenya must be on the NCK Retention Register.

What you need

  • The nurse's licence number (best), or their name

Steps

  1. Open the NCK licence status page at osp.nckenya.com/LicenseStatus.
  2. Search with the licence number if you have it. Ask the nurse for it if they are serving you.
  3. Filter by cadre to narrow the results, then check the retention details shown.

Watch out

  • Several people can share a name, so searching by name alone can mislead you.
  • Can't find the nurse? Contact NCK before you decide anything.
  • To report someone practising without a licence, write to NCK at complaints@nckenya.go.ke.

Who can apply

  • Anyone can search, for example an employer, a patient or a nurse checking their own status.
