Check if a private security company is licensed (PSRA)
Private Security Regulatory Authority · sources read 2 Oct 2026
Email enquiries@psra.go.ke with the company's name as written on its PSRA certificate and the registration number at the top-left of the certificate. PSRA confirms the status within 24 hours.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- How long
- Within 24 hours
- Where
- By email to PSRA (enquiries@psra.go.ke), or at PSRA offices, Lonrho House 10th Floor, Standard Street, Nairobi
What you need
- The company's name as on its PSRA certificate of registration, and the registration number from the top-left of that certificate
Steps
- Ask the company for its PSRA certificate of registration and note the exact name and the registration number at the top-left.
- Email both to enquiries@psra.go.ke and ask PSRA to confirm the company is licensed.
- PSRA checks its database and replies with the registration status within 24 hours.
Watch out
- Knowingly hiring an unlicensed security firm or unregistered guard is an offence, so check first.
- A licence lasts 5 years but must be renewed every year, so an old certificate alone does not prove it is still valid.
Who can apply
- Anyone planning to hire a security company. The PSRA register is open to inspection by anyone.
