Private Security Regulatory Authority · sources read 2 Oct 2026

Every guard working for a security company must be registered with PSRA. Your security company must submit your details to PSRA on the Guard Force Number (GFN) form; you need security training from a PSRA-accredited school and a certificate of good conduct.

Fee
We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
Where
Through your security company, which submits the GFN form to PSRA (gfn@psra.go.ke). PSRA online services: psra.ecitizen.go.ke. Office: Lonrho House, 10th Floor, Nairobi CBD.
Go to PSRA

What you need

  • Certificate of good conduct from the DCI
  • Proof of security training from a PSRA-accredited institution
  • If you served in the disciplined services: certificate of discharge and certificate of clearance

Steps

  1. Train at a security training institution accredited by PSRA and keep your certificate.
  2. Get a certificate of good conduct from the DCI.
  3. Give your security company your details. It must list every guard on the GFN form and submit it to PSRA.
  4. The company emails the filled GFN form to gfn@psra.go.ke.
  5. If approved, PSRA issues a certificate of registration. Renew it every year.

Watch out

  • Registration lasts at most one year, so it has to be renewed every year.
  • To renew, you must show at least one week of security training in the past year.
  • Working as a guard without PSRA registration is against the law.

Who can apply

  • Kenyan citizens, or people ordinarily resident in Kenya.
  • Over 18 years old.
  • At least a primary school certificate.
  • Trained in security at a PSRA-accredited institution.
  • No criminal record.
