Check if a SACCO is licensed by SASRA

Download SASRA's 2026 list of licensed and authorised SACCOs from sasra.go.ke and look for your SACCO's name before you save or borrow with it. A SACCO that is not on the list may not take deposits, and you deal with it at your own risk.

Steps
- Go to sasra.go.ke, open Regulated SACCOs > Licensed DT-SACCOs and download the list for the year ending 31 December 2026.
- Search Schedule I for the SACCO's exact name. Those SACCOs are licensed to take deposits (FOSA) from 1 January to 31 December 2026.
- Also check Schedule III and the schedules after it. SACCOs listed there are restricted to credit only, or are no longer allowed to do SACCO business.
- At the SACCO, look for its original SASRA licence or authorisation certificate on display at the head office (a copy at branches).

Watch out
- If you keep dealing with a SACCO that has no valid SASRA licence or authorisation, you do so at your own risk.
- Smaller SACCOs that only take non-withdrawable deposits below KSh 100 million are not regulated by SASRA, so they won't be on the list. That alone doesn't make them illegal.
- Matatu 'SACCOs', housing and investment co-operatives are not under SASRA either.
Who can apply
- Anyone. SASRA asks members of the public to check a SACCO on the list before doing any money business with it.
