Check if a TVET college is accredited and licensed by TVETA
Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority · sources read 1 Oct 2026
Search the TVET Register on tveta.go.ke (Accredited TVET Institutions) for the college's name and check that its status says Registered and Licensed and the licence hasn't expired. If you want a recognised certificate, also check who has the legal mandate to award it before you pay fees.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- Online on tveta.go.ke (TVET Register), or TVETA at Utalii House, 8th Floor, Utalii Street, Nairobi (info@tveta.go.ke, +254 20 2392140)
Steps
- Go to tveta.go.ke, open TVET Register > Accredited Institutions, and search for the college by name. The list shows its registration number, county and licence expiry date.
- Check the status. Only 'Registered and Licensed' is good. Colleges are also listed under Expired License and Deregistered.
- Check who will award your certificate: open TVET Register > TVET Institutions with Qualifications awarding mandate on tveta.go.ke.
- Not sure? Ask TVETA at info@tveta.go.ke, call +254 20 2392140 or 0700 015 440, or visit Utalii House, 8th Floor, Utalii Street, Nairobi.
Watch out
- An award from an institution that is not accredited, registered and licensed is not recognised in Kenya.
- No private TVET college has the legal mandate to award its own recognised certificates. Ask which body examines and certifies the course.
- 'Internal certificates' from colleges without legal mandate don't count for jobs, further study or licensing.
Who can apply
- Anyone: trainees, parents and employers. The register is public and free to check.
