Correct or change details on your national ID
National Registration Bureau · sources read 30 Sep 2026
Apply for "Change of Particulars" with the National Registration Bureau, either on your eCitizen account or at an NRB office. Get your birth certificate right first, because your ID and birth certificate should carry the same details.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- Online on eCitizen (National Registration Bureau), or at an NRB office
What you need
- Your birth certificate, since your ID and birth certificate should show the same details
Steps
- Work out where the mistake is. If your birth certificate is wrong, correct it at Civil Registration first. If only the ID is wrong, go to the National Registration Bureau (NRB).
- Log in to eCitizen and open the National Registration Bureau services (nrb.ecitizen.go.ke).
- Choose "Change of Particulars" and fill in the application.
Watch out
- A passport application gets stuck if your ID and birth certificate don't match, so fix the ID before you apply for a passport.
- Only give true details. Knowingly giving false information for your ID is an offence.
- Stuck? NRB headquarters is at NSSF Building, Block B, 8th floor, Bishops Road, Nairobi.
Who can apply
- Anyone who already holds a Kenyan ID card and needs a detail changed, for example a new name after marriage, a new location or an added name.
- The law allows errors in your registration details to be corrected when you ask for it.
