Create an eCitizen account

Go to www.ecitizen.go.ke, pick the Kenyan citizen account, enter your ID number and first name as on your ID, then set your email and password. Click the activation link sent to your email and confirm your phone with the code sent by SMS.

What you need
- Your national ID number and first name exactly as on the ID
- A working email address you can open
- A mobile phone to receive the verification code
Steps
- Open www.ecitizen.go.ke, start registration and choose the Kenyan citizen account.
- Enter your ID number and first name as they appear on your ID.
- Enter your email, choose a password, confirm it and accept the terms and conditions.
- Open the email eCitizen sends you and click the link to activate your account.
- Enter your phone number, tap 'send verification code', then type in the code you get by SMS and verify. You can add a photo now or later.
Watch out
- Use an email you actually check. eCitizen sends all notifications and application updates there.
- The profile photo must be recent and no bigger than 500 x 500 px. You can skip it and upload it the next time you log in.
Who can apply
- Kenyan citizens with a national ID card open a citizen account.
- Children under 18 don't need their own account: apply for them from a parent's or guardian's account.
