Get KURA approval for roadside development or access on an urban road

Apply on KURA's eCitizen portal (kura.ecitizen.go.ke) under 'Request for Road Side Development'. You need KURA's written permission before you build anything on, over or under an urban road reserve.

Fee
We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
Where
Online on KURA's eCitizen portal (kura.ecitizen.go.ke). KURA head office: Barabara Plaza, Mazao Road, JKIA, Nairobi.
Go to eCitizen

Steps

  1. Sign in to kura.ecitizen.go.ke with your eCitizen account and choose 'Request for Road Side Development'.
  2. Fill in the application and pay online through eCitizen.
  3. When you finish, print the document the portal gives you.

Watch out

  • Build without permission and KURA can order you to remove it (with at least 30 days' notice) and charge you if it removes it. It is also an offence: up to 1 year in jail, a KSh 100,000 fine, or both.
  • KURA handles public roads in cities and towns. National highways are KeNHA's, so apply there instead.
  • KURA can approve or refuse your request.

Who can apply

  • Anyone planning to build, lay or put up anything on, over or under the reserve of a KURA road
