What you need
- Application letter to the Board and the completed LSB application form
- Declaration Forms A and B (Third Schedule of the Survey Act)
- Certified copies of your degree and professional certificates
- Pass letter for the Board's Land Law Examination
- Full membership certificate from the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK)
- Copy of your national ID card
- Proof of practical survey jobs, for example a scheme cadastral survey of at least 10 plots, plus topographical and control surveys
Steps
- Collect proof of the required survey jobs and pass the Board's Land Law Examination.
- Pay the KSh 15,050 application fee on eCitizen via M-PESA Paybill 222222 (account AKSL- followed by your name).
- Send your application letter, the LSB form, declarations and all documents to the Board.
- Sit the mandatory viva voce (oral examination in surveying).
- Every year, renew on the LSB portal: upload your Certificate of Good Standing, pay through eCitizen, submit, then download your Annual Practicing License.
Watch out
- The application fee is not refundable, so check you have every requirement before you pay.
- If you plan to do supervised (non-production) jobs, apply to the Director of Surveys for a site and a supervisor first.
Who can apply
- Holders of a Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Geospatial Engineering, Geomatic Engineering or a related field.
- To sit the Board's Land Law Examination first, you need at least two years' experience in land surveying.
