- Apply to the county Liquor Directorate (Department of Tourism and Culture), which issues liquor licences.
- Pay the KSh 2,000 application and inspection fee, plus KSh 1,000 for the land or plot search.
- Pay the licence fee for your type of outlet and area. Rates are highest in urban areas, lower in peri-urban and rural areas.
- You can pay county fees through official channels; the county lists MachaPay as its online payment platform.
Watch out
- Not paying for your liquor licence carries a KSh 20,000 penalty.
- A licence can be transferred for KSh 1,000; a one-day event licence is KSh 2,000.

- Anyone selling or distributing alcoholic drinks in Machakos County: bars, wines and spirits shops, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, clubs and wholesalers.
