Civil Litigation Department · sources read 2 Oct 2026

Send the Attorney General's Civil Litigation Department a certified copy of the judgment, the decree, the certificate of costs and the certificate of order against the Government. The Department asks the liable ministry or agency for the money, and once it arrives, asks you or your advocate for bank details, a signed discharge voucher, ID and an IFMIS number before paying.

What you need

  • Signed and certified copy of the court judgment, the decree, the certificate of costs and the certificate of order against the Government
  • Bank details form, signed discharge voucher for the amount, copy of your ID card and IFMIS registration number
  • If you have an advocate, they also give a tax compliance certificate and the law firm's registration

Steps

  1. Give the Civil Litigation Department the certified judgment, decree, certificate of costs and certificate of order against the Government.
  2. The Department asks the ministry or agency the court held liable to release the money.
  3. When the money reaches the AG's Office, it writes to your advocate (or to you, if you have no advocate) asking for the payment documents.
  4. Send the bank details form, signed discharge voucher, ID copy and IFMIS number. The office helps you get an IFMIS number.

Watch out

  • The AG's Office only asks for payment documents after the liable ministry or agency has sent the money.
  • If your advocate asks in writing for part to go to them and the rest to you, each part needs its own set of documents.

Who can apply

  • Anyone who won a court case against the Government, with or without an advocate.
