Get your child a learner UPI number on NEMIS/KEMIS (or fix their record)
Ministry of Education · sources read 2 Oct 2026
Ask your child's school to register them on NEMIS (now moving to KEMIS) or to update their details. Parents do not register on the portal themselves; the school does it and the record is tied to your child's unique learner number (UPI).
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- At your child's school (the head teacher registers or updates the record)
Steps
- Go to your child's school and ask the head teacher to register your child on NEMIS, or to update or correct their details.
- The school enters the learner's details on the Ministry's online system.
- The record is linked to a unique learner identifier (the UPI), which stays with your child.
Watch out
- Only schools and education officers use the portal. A head teacher without access gets it from the County or Sub-County Director of Education, so don't try to sign up yourself.
