Office of the Registrar of Political Parties · sources read 2 Oct 2026

Dial *509# or go to orpp.ecitizen.go.ke and pick the party you want to join; the party then approves you. You must be a Kenyan citizen and a registered voter, and you can only be in one party at a time.

Fee
We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
Where
By USSD (*509#), online on eCitizen (orpp.ecitizen.go.ke), or at the party's office
Go to eCitizen

What you need

  • For joining on paper: the party's filled membership form and a copy of your ID card or passport

Steps

  1. Dial *509# and follow the prompts to join the party you choose. It works on the two biggest mobile networks.
  2. Or join online through the ORPP portal on eCitizen (orpp.ecitizen.go.ke).
  3. Or fill the party's membership form at the party office and attach a copy of your ID or passport. The party gives you a membership card.
  4. The party approves your application and updates its register. For paper forms, ORPP sends you a message asking for your consent, and you become a member once you agree.

Watch out

  • You can only belong to one party at a time. Dial *509# to check where you are registered first.
  • Joining through ORPP is free (USSD costs the normal KSh 1), but the party may charge its own membership fee.
  • Nobody may register you in a party without your consent. That is an offence.

Who can apply

  • Kenyan citizens who are registered voters.
