Register a new political party

Reserve the party name, then get the symbol, slogan and colours approved on ORPP's IPPMS portal (ippms.orpp.or.ke). Next apply for provisional registration (KSh 100,000), and within 180 days apply for full registration (KSh 500,000) with at least 1,000 registered-voter members in each of more than half of the counties.

- The party constitution and rules
- Signed minutes of the founding members' first meeting
- A statement of the party's ideology
- Filled Form PP1
- Filled Form PP2
- A vetting form
Steps
- Create an account on IPPMS (ippms.orpp.or.ke), add at least five proposed party names, then submit and pay on the portal.
- Once a name is approved, upload at least five coloured symbols and three slogans, plus colour combinations, for approval.
- Apply for provisional registration with your documents and pay KSh 100,000 by banker's cheque to the Registrar of Political Parties.
- Within 180 days of provisional registration, apply for full registration and pay KSh 500,000.
Watch out
- For full registration you need at least 1,000 registered voters as members in each of more than half of the counties.
- You also need branch offices in more than half of the counties.
- Not more than two-thirds of the applicants who sign can be of the same gender.
Who can apply
- Founding members must not be disqualified from holding public office or belong to another political party.
