Steps
- Go to diaspora.go.ke/downloads and open 'Kenya Diaspora Policy 2024' (PDF).
- Its goal: an empowered and prosperous diaspora that contributes to Kenya's development.
- It has four aims: protect diaspora rights and welfare; support savings, investment, remittances and technology transfer; strengthen partnership with the diaspora; and help Kenyans get jobs abroad.
- Planned actions include a Diaspora Summit, closer links with county governments, stronger work with diaspora associations, and taking government services closer to Kenyans abroad.
Watch out
- Looking for the 2014 policy? The 2024 policy came out of a review of it, so read the 2024 version for the current position.
- The policy is a plan, not a service desk: passports, IDs and dual citizenship are still handled by Immigration, including at Kenya missions abroad.
Who can apply
- 'Diaspora' here means Kenyans with a Kenyan passport or dual citizenship living outside Kenya, for work, business, study or any other reason.
- It applies to the diaspora, the government, private recruitment agencies, the private sector and development partners.
