Steps

  1. Know who runs it: SDDA is one of two state departments in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. The Principal Secretary is Roseline Kathure Njogu; the Cabinet Secretary is Musalia Mudavadi.
  2. For general questions call +254 114 757 002 or email info@diaspora.go.ke, Monday to Friday, 8am-1pm and 2pm-5pm, or visit UAP Old Mutual Building, Ground floor, Upperhill Road, Nairobi.
  3. In trouble abroad? Contact the nearest Kenyan embassy first. If you can't reach one, contact the SDDA consular team: +254 114 757 002 or consular@diaspora.go.ke.
  4. Its main services are on diaspora.go.ke/services: emergency help, Kazi Majuu jobs, the Diaspora Placement Agency, the Diaspora Investment Support Office (DISO), Mobile Consular Services, migrant worker support and the list of Kenyan missions.
  5. If service falls short, complain to the Principal Secretary at complaints@diaspora.go.ke, or to the Ombudsman (complain@ombudsman.go.ke).

Watch out

  • SDDA doesn't issue passports or IDs: those go through the relevant agencies and Kenyan missions abroad.
  • SDDA cannot pay fines, legal fees or private medical bills, step into court cases, or give you accommodation or a job.
  • In a life-threatening emergency abroad, call the local emergency number first, then the mission or SDDA.

Who can apply

  • Kenyans living abroad and their families, plus partners at home: SDDA protects their rights and interests and links diaspora skills and money to development.
