Steps
- Know what you owe: rates are a share of your plot's unimproved site value in the county valuation roll (2% residential, 5% commercial, 2.25% agricultural). Some plots pay a flat rate set in the roll.
- Pay the county by mobile payment, bank deposit, EFT or cash to an appointed county revenue officer.
- Get and keep the official county receipt for every payment.
- Selling or transferring? Ask the county rating section for a clearance certificate (KSh 7,500 per plot).
Watch out
- A real county revenue officer must wear a county ID card where you can see it. Only pay appointed officers.
- If you get a written demand for unpaid rates, you have 60 days to pay before the county can act.
- Rates left unpaid after a demand can end with the county auctioning the property.
Who can apply
- Owners of land or buildings in Kericho County, including holders of leases with 21 years or more left
- In some cases the person occupying the property is the one who pays
