If you are an officer unhappy with a disciplinary decision, appeal up the chain in writing within 30 days; an appeal against the Inspector-General's decision goes to the NPSC. For counselling support, officers and families can call the NPSC toll-free line 0800 721 070.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- How long
- The NPSC panel considers the appeal within 21 days. The decision and reasons reach you through the Inspector-General within 14 days after the panel's recommendation.
- Deadline
- Appeal within 30 days of the decision you are appealing against.
- Where
- In writing, through the Service chain and then to the National Police Service Commission, 6th Floor, CBK Pension Towers, Harambee Avenue, Nairobi (P.O. Box 47363-00100; info@npsc.go.ke). Counselling: toll-free 0800 721 070.
What you need
- A written appeal
- For a late appeal: a written statement of your reasons for being late
Steps
- Appeal a Subordinate Disciplinary Committee decision in order: first at County, Formation or Unit level, then to your Deputy Inspector-General (or DCI), then to the Inspector-General.
- If you are still unhappy with the Inspector-General's decision, appeal to the NPSC.
- Write your appeal and send it within 30 days of the decision.
- When appealing to an authority inside the Service, send copies to the Inspector-General, your Deputy Inspector-General and the NPSC.
- At the NPSC, a panel chaired by a Commissioner hears the appeal (in writing, orally or both) and recommends a decision to the Commission.
Watch out
- Missed the 30 days? A late appeal is accepted only for a compelling reason, which you must give in writing.
- After the NPSC decides, you can only ask it to review if there is new information.
- Under pressure? The NPSC counselling centre toll-free line is 0800 721 070 (email info@npsc.go.ke).
Who can apply
- Members of the National Police Service who are aggrieved by a disciplinary decision.
