Rent a National Housing Corporation (NHC) house
National Housing Corporation · sources read 2 Oct 2026
Fill in NHC's rental application form, attach proof of income and a passport photo, and hand it to the Chief Estates Officer at NHC. Applying is no guarantee of a house: NHC allocates what is available.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- How long
- NHC's charter sets 1 day to handle a letting application. Getting a house depends on what is vacant.
- Where
- NHC House, Aga Khan Walk, Nairobi (Chief Estates Officer), or NHC offices in Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nakuru and Kitale
What you need
- NHC Rental Application form, filled in and signed
- Documents proving your income (payslip or, if self-employed, accounts or tax returns)
- One passport-size colour photo
- Names and contacts of two referees (your employer first, if employed) and two guarantors
Steps
- Download the Rental Application form from the NHC website (nhckenya.go.ke, under Resources and Downloads).
- Fill it in: name the estate you want, the type and size of house, and the rent you are offering.
- Attach documents for every income you list, plus one passport photo.
- Return the form to the Chief Estates Officer at NHC (head office at NHC House, Aga Khan Walk, Nairobi, or ask your nearest NHC office).
Watch out
- Applying does not guarantee you a house. Giving false details can get your application rejected or the house taken back.
- Letting a house is a free service in NHC's charter, so don't pay anyone just to apply.
Who can apply
- Adults aged 18 and above. NHC does not accept applications from anyone under 18.
