Understand KJSEA (Grade 9) grading and performance levels

Each KJSEA subject gets one of 8 levels, from EE1 (8 points, 90-100%) down to BE2 (1 point, 0-10%). There is no overall mean grade: KNEC instead gives a score for each of the three senior school pathways.

- Deadline
- Queries on results go to KNEC within 30 working days of the results release

- Online at kjsea.knec.ac.ke; your school downloads and prints the official slip and learner report from the KNEC CBA portal
Steps
- Check the results at kjsea.knec.ac.ke using the learner's assessment number and at least one name.
- Read each subject's level: Exceeding Expectation (EE1, EE2), Meeting (ME1, ME2), Approaching (AE1, AE2) or Below Expectation (BE1, BE2).
- Look at the pathway scores (STEM, Arts & Sports Science, Social Sciences). Each runs from 0 to 75; the higher it is, the stronger the learner's potential in that pathway.
- If a result looks wrong, ask the school head to send a query to KNEC (private candidates go through the County Director of Education).
Watch out
- Don't add up the points for a mean grade. KNEC does not combine subjects into an aggregate; results show achievement per subject and guide pathway placement.
- The final grade isn't just the exam. The KJSEA exam counts 60%, Grade 7 and 8 school-based assessment 20%, and KPSEA 20%.
- Result slips are provisional and KNEC can correct them. Every learner going to senior school needs the KJSEA Individual Learner Report, which the school prints and stamps.

- Grade 9 learners resident in Kenya who sat KJSEA
- To sit KJSEA you need KPSEA results
- You also need Grade 7 and 8 school-based assessment (SBA) scores in all learning areas
