Add a bank or lender to a logbook when buying a car on credit (asset financing in-charge)
National Transport and Safety Authority · sources read 2 Oct 2026
Your bank or financier starts the asset financing (in-charge) application on the NTSA portal and pays KSh 1,175. You then log in to your own NTSA portal account and accept the consent notification so it goes to NTSA for approval.
- Fee
- KSh 1,175Asset financing (in-charge) application
- How long
- About 3 working days
- Where
- Online on the NTSA service portal (eCitizen login). The lender applies from its in-charge account; you accept from your own account.
What you need
- The vehicle's logbook as a PDF (uploaded by the lender)
Steps
- The bank or financier logs in to the NTSA service portal through eCitizen, switches to its in-charge account and searches the car's registration number.
- The lender fills in your details as owner, uploads the logbook in PDF and picks a collection centre.
- The lender submits and pays the KSh 1,175 fee.
- Log in to your own NTSA portal account, open the consent notification on the home page and accept it. This sends the request to NTSA for approval.
Watch out
- Nothing moves until you accept the consent notification on your own NTSA account, so check it once the lender says they've applied.
- While the lender is on the logbook, NTSA won't transfer the car or reissue the logbook until the lender releases it.
Who can apply
- Vehicle owners buying or financing a car through a bank or asset financier, together with that lender
