Apply for a county (ward) education bursary
County Governments · sources read 4 Oct 2026
Your county runs its own bursary, separate from the CDF bursary. When your county opens applications, pick a form at your Ward Administrator's office or apply on the county's bursary portal, with your fee structure and fee statement.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- Your Ward Administrator's office (or village administrator's office), or your county's online bursary portal where one exists, e.g. elimisha.makueni.go.ke or bursary.kericho.go.ke.
What you need
- Fee structure and fee statement from your school or college
- National ID, school ID or admission letter (Makueni asks for each as a PDF when applying online)
Steps
- Watch for your county's bursary window. Applications open only for a set period each year.
- Pick and fill the county bursary form at your Ward Administrator's office (in Machakos this happens during ward public participation forums).
- Some counties take applications online, for example Makueni (elimisha.makueni.go.ke, for university and college students) and Kericho (bursary.kericho.go.ke).
- Attach your documents and submit. On Elimisha Makueni you get an SMS and email once your application is received.
Watch out
- Outside the window you can't apply: Kericho's portal says this year's application period is yet to be set.
- When applying online on Elimisha Makueni, every document must be a PDF, so scan them first.
Who can apply
- Needy students in secondary schools, universities, vocational training centres (VTCs) and other accredited institutions (as in Machakos).
