Apply for a teacher transfer with TSC
Teachers Service Commission · sources read 30 Sep 2026
Apply online on the TSC teachers portal, through your head of institution. TSC only approves a transfer when there is a vacancy or a suitable replacement, and transfers mostly happen during school holidays.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- Online on the TSC teachers portal (HRMIS), through your head of institution
What you need
- Your TSC number
- Your national ID number
- The mobile phone number you use, to receive a security code
Steps
- Open the TSC teachers portal (hrmis.tsc.go.ke/tm-app/apply_transfer). Log in with your TSC number, ID number and phone number, then enter the security code sent to your phone.
- Fill in the complete transfer application. It goes through your head of institution.
- Check your status on the portal. Acknowledged means it is under review and waiting for a vacancy or replacement; Not Approved means there is none; Approved means you can move.
- If approved, get your transfer letter and a release letter from your current head of institution. The head then exits you on the entry/exit portal and you report to the new school.
Watch out
- A transfer needs a vacancy and a suitable teacher to replace you, so it can stay on Acknowledged for a while.
- Don't agree with a transfer? Appeal within 7 days of the transfer date to the County Director, Regional Director or Director Staffing.
- Even while your appeal is pending, you must report to the new school.
Who can apply
- Teachers employed by TSC who want to move to another school or station.
