Teachers Service Commission · sources read 30 Sep 2026
Apply for leave on the TSC teachers portal (HRMIS), logging in with your TSC number, ID number and phone. A female teacher gets 90 calendar days of maternity leave, a male teacher up to 10 days of paternity leave, and every teacher 42 days of annual leave taken in school holidays.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- Online on the TSC teachers portal (HRMIS), through your head of institution
What you need
- Your TSC number, national ID number and mobile phone number (to log in)
- For maternity leave: supporting medical documents
- For paternity leave: a letter of your spouse's confinement
Steps
- Open the leave page on the TSC teachers portal (hrmis.tsc.go.ke/tm-app/apply_leave). Log in with your TSC number, ID number and phone number, then enter the security code sent to your phone.

Watch out
- Annual leave is taken during school holidays, not during term.
- If you are not on annual leave, TSC treats you as on duty, even during school holidays.
- Maternity leave is separate from annual leave; one does not use up the other.
Who can apply
- Maternity leave: female teachers, 90 calendar days from the date of confinement.
- Paternity leave: male teachers, up to 10 days within the spouse's maternity leave.
- Annual leave: every teacher, 42 days, taken during school holidays.
