Cancel a KRA PIN or tax obligation

What you need

• Bank statements, where they apply (KRA may also ask for financial or mobile money statements)
• For a closed company: the deregistration certificate from the Registrar of Companies
• For a deceased person: certified death certificate, grant of probate or letters of administration, certificate of confirmation of grant, the Gazette notice and the representative's ID
• If you are a foreigner leaving Kenya: your passport with the exit stamp

Steps

1. Log in to iTax.
2. Go to the Registration tab and choose E-cancellation.
3. Select the PIN or tax obligation to cancel, give your reasons and submit.
4. Send supporting documents if KRA asks for them.
5. For a deceased person, apply on iTax or at the nearest KRA office or Tax Service Office with certified copies.

Who can apply

• Any taxpayer who wants to cancel their own PIN or a tax obligation
• For someone who has died: a legal representative, executor, court-appointed administrator or family member managing their affairs, with proof of authority
