- How long
- 14 days for new officials; 7 days for a constitution or name change; 1 day for banking changes
- Where
- Online on the PBORA eCitizen portal (pbora.ecitizen.go.ke). PBORA offices: Co-operative Bank House, 15th Floor, Haile Selassie Avenue, Nairobi (info@pbora.go.ke; 0111 053 310).
What you need
- Form 14, filled in (for officials, constitution or banking changes)
- Minutes of the meeting that approved the change, signed by the PBO's officials and giving reasons
- New officials: details of the incoming officials
- Constitution change: a copy of the amended constitution
- Name change: Form 15, filled in
- Name change: proof that the new name is reserved
- Name change: a copy of a newspaper notice (national paper) announcing the new name
Steps
- Hold a meeting that approves the change and keep signed minutes that give the reasons.
- Sign in to pbora.ecitizen.go.ke and pick the service you need (for a new name, reserve it first, then file the change).
- Fill in Form 14 (or Form 15 for a name), upload your documents and pay the fee.
- PBORA updates your file and sends a letter confirming the change. A name change gets a new certificate; a bank request gets a letter to your bank.
Watch out
- You can amend your constitution, but you can't change the PBO's main objective.
- The bank letter names your registered officials, so the bank sees the officials PBORA has on file. Update officials first if they have changed.
- A name change needs a newspaper notice before you apply, so budget for the advert too.
Who can apply
- Any registered PBO, including NGOs that moved over from the old NGOs Act, whose officials, name, address, constitution or bank arrangements change.
