Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority, formerly the NGOs Co-ordination Board · sources read 3 Oct 2026
Apply on PBORA's eCitizen portal (pbora.ecitizen.go.ke) for the letter you need. PBORA's letter confirms your PBO is registered and in good standing, and for bank or M-Pesa paybill/till services it names your registered officials, the bank and the currency.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- Online on PBORA's eCitizen portal (pbora.ecitizen.go.ke)
Steps
- Log in to pbora.ecitizen.go.ke and pick the letter service you need. All PBORA services are online there.
- For money matters, the bank letter covers opening or closing an account, changing signatories, reactivating a dormant account, regularising an unauthorised account and opening a till or M-Pesa paybill.
- PBORA issues an official letter confirming your registered officials, the bank you chose and the account currency. Take it to the bank or Safaricom.
- Hiring a foreign staff member? Get PBORA's recommendation letter first; Immigration requires it for the work permit.
Watch out
- The letter lists the officials PBORA has on record. If your officials changed, update PBORA first or the names won't match at the bank.
- eCitizen adds a convenience charge on top of PBORA's fee.
- PBORA also gives recommendations for tax exemption. The exemption itself comes from KRA.
Who can apply
- Registered PBOs (NGOs) that are compliant and in good standing with PBORA.
