Complain about an NGO (PBO) or about PBORA
Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority, formerly the NGOs Co-ordination Board · sources read 3 Oct 2026
Send your complaint to PBORA through the Complaints form on pbora.go.ke or email info@pbora.go.ke; PBORA can open an inquiry into a PBO. If PBORA's own service fails you, go to the Ombudsman (complain@ombudsman.go.ke); breaches of the PBO Act and appeals go to the PBO Disputes Tribunal.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Deadline
- Appeal a PBORA decision to the Tribunal within 30 days of getting the written notice.
- Where
- Online at pbora.go.ke/complaints or info@pbora.go.ke; in person at Co-operative Bank House, 15th Floor, Haile Selassie Avenue, Nairobi (tel. 0111 053 310)
Steps
- Write to PBORA: use the Complaints form on pbora.go.ke (your name, email, subject and message) or email info@pbora.go.ke. Name the organisation and say what happened.
- PBORA can open an inquiry to check whether a PBO is breaking the PBO Act or any other law.
- Unhappy with PBORA's own service? Complain to the Commission on Administrative Justice (Ombudsman) at complain@ombudsman.go.ke.
- For a breach of the PBO Act, you can take the complaint to the PBO Disputes Tribunal, which hears and decides such complaints.
Watch out
- PBORA's phone lines and office work Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
- The Tribunal does not handle crimes. For fraud or theft by an NGO, report to the police too.
Who can apply
- If PBORA made a decision against your application or organisation, you can appeal to the PBO Disputes Tribunal.
