Check the status of a road project and who to ask
Kenya National Highways Authority, Kenya Rural Roads Authority, Kenya Urban Roads Authority and county governments · sources read 12 Oct 2026
First work out who owns the road: KeNHA builds national trunk roads (Class S, A and B), KeRRA rural roads, KURA urban roads, and your county its county roads. Each authority publishes its ongoing projects online and takes complaints free; KeNHA aims to resolve complaints within 21 days.
- Fee
- FreeComplaint or inquiry to KeNHA
- How long
- KeNHA acknowledges complaints within 1 working day and aims to resolve them within 21 days
- Where
- KeNHA: kenha.co.ke, toll-free 0800 211 244, complaints@kenha.co.ke. KeRRA: kerra.go.ke, toll-free 0800 721 901. KURA: kura.go.ke, 0717 105 233. County roads: your county government
Steps
- Highway or national trunk road? Check KeNHA's On-going Projects page (for example the Naivasha – Njabini (C67) road is listed there).
- Rural road? KeRRA's Road Projects Under Construction page lists each road by county and constituency, with the contractor, contract sum, length and status.
- Road in a town or city? Check KURA's On Going Projects page, or call KURA on 0717 105 233 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm).
- Not on any of these lists? It may be a county road. County roads are a county government function, so ask your county's roads or transport department.
- To ask about or complain about a stalled KeNHA project, call toll-free 0800 211 244 or email complaints@kenha.co.ke. KeNHA also has regional offices for each region and corridor.
- For a KeRRA rural road, call KeRRA toll-free on 0800 721 901 or use its complaint form. KeRRA has a regional office in every county.
Watch out
- Road letters don't always tell you the agency: KeNHA manages some C roads (like C67), while KeRRA's list includes rural roads such as D549. For a C road, check both the KeNHA and KeRRA project lists.
- You can make a formal request for information on a KeNHA project; the charter target is 21 days.
- If KeNHA does not meet its service standards, you can escalate to the Commission on Administrative Justice (Ombudsman) at complain@ombudsman.go.ke.
- KURA handles national trunk roads inside urban areas, so a highway section running through a town may sit with KURA, not KeNHA.
Who can apply
- Anyone can ask. KeNHA is responsible for all national trunk roads: Class S, A and B.
