Close your Kenya Power account and get your deposit back

Ask Kenya Power to close your postpaid account, settle any unpaid bills and let them take a final meter reading. The deposit is refunded to the registered account holder within 14 working days of closure.

Steps
- Tell Kenya Power you are moving out or selling the property, and ask them to close the account.
- Clear any unpaid bills.
- Kenya Power takes a final meter reading, within three working days of your request.
- Once the documents are in and bills are settled, the account is closed within 48 hours.
- Your deposit is refunded within 14 working days of closure.
Watch out
- Prepaid (token) accounts have no deposit to refund.
- You can't use the old deposit or a credit balance to open another account. The deposit must be refunded first.
- Tenants: ask for a final reading when you move out, so you don't pay for the next person.

- Postpaid customers (you get a bill at the end of the month) who close their account.
- The refund goes to the registered account holder.
