Where
Register by dialling *147# or on afyayangu.go.ke / sha.go.ke, then get care at any SHA-contracted health facility
Go to SHA

Steps

  1. Register with SHA if you haven't: dial *147#, or go to sha.go.ke or afyayangu.go.ke.
  2. Go for antenatal clinic visits at a SHA-contracted Level 2, 3 or selected Level 4 primary care facility.
  3. Deliver at a SHA-contracted facility. As a registered beneficiary, delivery is free.
  4. Go back for postnatal checks for you and your baby. These are also covered at primary care facilities.

Watch out

  • If you're referred to a bigger hospital (Level 4 to 6), SHIF pays, and that needs your SHA contributions to be up to date.
  • Complications for you or the baby are covered too, under SHA's other benefit packages.
  • If you're Rhesus-negative, the Anti-D injection is covered.

Who can apply

  • Every mother registered with SHA, including young (underage) mothers and mothers who can't afford to pay.
  • All deliveries are covered: normal, assisted and caesarean section.
  • Newborns too: care for mother and baby together after birth.
