NHIF is now SHA: what changed and where to get help

NHIF closed and SHA took over from 1 October 2024. Check whether you're covered on eligibility.sha.go.ke, register with SHA if you're not, and get free help at any SHA office or Huduma Centre.

- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- Online at eligibility.sha.go.ke and sha.go.ke, or *147#. In person at an SHA county office (Nairobi: NHIF Car Park Building, ground floor; head office: SHA Building, Ragati Road, Upperhill) or a Huduma Centre.
What you need
- Your national ID card
- For children: a birth certificate
Steps
- Check if you're already covered on eligibility.sha.go.ke using your ID number.
- If you're not on SHA, register: dial *147# or go to sha.go.ke and click Register.
- If your NHIF record moved to SHA but your family didn't, log in to afyayangu.go.ke and add them under 'Add Dependents'.
- No phone or internet? Go to any SHA office, a Huduma Centre or a community health promoter for help.
Watch out
- NHIF took its last members on 30 September 2024. SHA cover started on 1 October 2024, so an old NHIF card alone won't get you treated.
- Paid NHIF in advance? That money moves to SHA, but only after you register with SHA and complete means testing.
