Go to SHA

What you need

  • KRA PIN certificate
  • Business registration certificate (or the Act of Parliament that set up the organisation)

Steps

  1. Register on employers.sha.go.ke. Pick 'Activate with NHIF e-Services' if you were on NHIF, or 'New Business' if not.
  2. Register your employees and their dependants on the portal.
  3. Each month, deduct 2.75% of every employee's gross salary.
  4. Log in, upload the contribution by-product, select the month, click Submission, then E-slip and choose your bank.
  5. Print the instructions and pay at the bank, using the E-slip number as the reference.

Watch out

  • Late contributions attract a penalty of 2% of the unpaid amount for as long as it stays unpaid.
  • If you have unpaid penalties, your company is flagged non-compliant and your staff are marked inactive, so they can't use SHA.
  • Seeing 'NHIF Employer details not found'? Try again, and if it persists call SHA on 0800 720 601 or 147.

Who can apply

  • All employers, public and private, must pay SHA contributions for their staff
