Rent or renew a post office box (Posta Kenya)

Apply for or renew a post office box online at apps.posta.co.ke, or at a post office. An individual box costs KSh 2,200 plus a KSh 1,000 key deposit.

- Online at apps.posta.co.ke/boxupdate, or at any Posta Kenya post office
What you need
- Filled box application form (P31)
- Individual box: copy of your ID card
- Corporate box: copy of the certificate of incorporation
Steps
- Go to apps.posta.co.ke/boxupdate and choose New Box Application (personal, business, special group or learning/religious).
- Or fill in form P31 at a post office and attach a copy of your ID (or the company's certificate of incorporation).
- To renew, choose Renew Box on the same site, or pay by M-Pesa Paybill 506500 using your box number and post office code as the account (e.g. 34567-00100).
Watch out
- The key deposit of KSh 1,000 is not included in the box fee.
- Paid but your box still shows unpaid? Use 'Resolve Payment' on the Posta box site.
- No box available at your post office? An M Post virtual box costs KSh 400 a year and sends an SMS when mail arrives (dial *631#).
Who can apply
- Individuals, companies, special groups (like children's homes and homes for the elderly), and schools and religious organisations.
