Visa requirements for Kenyan citizens travelling abroad
Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs · sources read 3 Oct 2026
Apply for a visa through the embassy or consulate of the country you are going to. Kenya's Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs does not issue visas for private travel, but it can guide you.
- Fee
- We couldn't confirm a fee from the official page. Check it there before you pay.
- Where
- At the embassy or consulate of the country you are travelling to (many take applications online). The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs can give guidance.
Steps
- Find the embassy or consulate of the country you want to visit and follow its visa rules. Requirements, fees and timelines are set by that country.
- If you are unsure about the process, ask the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs for guidance.
- Going for a job? Make sure you have a valid job offer first, then get the work visa or permit the destination country requires.
- When you arrive, register with the nearest Kenyan embassy or consulate so it can help you in an emergency.
Watch out
- The Ministry does not issue visas for private travel, so be wary of anyone offering a 'ministry visa' for a fee.
- Kenya's own embassies and high commissions abroad are listed on mfa.go.ke. They help Kenyans abroad but do not issue other countries' visas.
Who can apply
- For private travel, every Kenyan applies directly to the destination country's embassy. The Ministry only helps with diplomatic and official visas for people on government duty.
