After KCSE: results, university and HELB

From results day to your first year at university or college, in order.

Your checklist. Tick things off as you go; it's saved on this phone only.

  1. 1. Your grades decide which courses you can pick. Check KCSE, KJSEA and KPSEA results For KCSE, go to results.knec.ac.ke and enter your index number and name. For KJSEA, use kjsea.knec.ac.ke with the assessment number and at least one name. KPSEA learner reports come through your school, which downloads them from the KNEC CBA portal.
  2. 2. Apply for university or college placement. Apply for university or college placement on KUCCPS (including revision of choices) Log in to the KUCCPS Student's Portal with your KCSE index number, pick your courses in order of priority, and pay KSh 1,500 through eCitizen. Keep the eCitizen reference code: you reuse it to revise your choices.
  3. 3. If you want to train in health. Apply to Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) KMTC takes students in March and September. Fresh KCSE leavers apply for certificate and diploma courses through the KUCCPS portal; upgrading and higher diploma applicants apply on the KMTC admissions portal and pay KSh 2,072 by M-Pesa.
  4. 4. Apply for funding once you have a place. Apply for a first-time HELB university loan and scholarship Once you have your admission letter, apply free of charge on the HEF portal (hef.co.ke) during the open window. The government splits your funding between scholarship, loan and family contribution based on your assessed need.
  5. 5. HELB and many colleges ask for your ID. Get your first national ID (from age 18) Once you're 18, go in person to your nearest National Registration Bureau office (usually at the County Commissioner's office or chief's camp) with your birth certificate and a parent's ID. First-time registration is listed as free.

Don't include your ID number or KRA PIN. We remove them if you do.
